Mean Girls (and Boys)

There have been movies about them, songs about them, books about them….mean people. I wish I could tell you mean people no longer exist after a certain point in life, however that would be a lie. One thing that will remain constant throughout life is probably your height, and mean people.  I always imagined after high school, the petty drama would end but sadly some people thrive on drama for no other reason then to make their lives exciting. While it is disappointing our lives will be infiltrated with people who make it a daily goal to bring us down and break our spirit, there are things I know at 25 that I wish I knew long ago.

The main goal of mean people is to upset us, hurt us, and offend us simply so they can bring us down to their level of misery and sadness. It is rare you will be introduced to a happy, fulfilled person who will go out of their way to upset you. So next time someone is mean to you, take a minute and think about how unhappy they must be internally in order to feel the need to destroy your happiness. This includes mean words, actions or the latest in the bullying epidemic, social media. I never dreamed that at 25 I would be a victim of cyber bullying, but it clicked one day. It is the easy, cowardly way for someone to be mean and hurtful. Cyber bullies are too afraid to come forward and voice their concerns or feelings so they hide behind a computer screen and shy away in the face of confrontation. Next time someone tries to bully you online, approach them and see how quickly they start making excuses and back peddling to avoid any sort of human interaction. It is also arguable that cyber bullying via social media sites is the most offensive and debilitating kind considering it is for the world to see. These bullies not only want to upset you but they want everyone else to gang up on you as well. You can rest assured that by 25, these kinds of bullies are scoffed at and will most likely be the ones who end up being turned on.

There is something called the law of attraction that says you attract into your life whatever you think about. It is simple, if you think about sadness, gloom, and/or failure, inevitably you will find yourself surrounded by these things and these kinds of people. On the other hand if you think about positive goals, life aspirations, successes and unicorns, you will float through the day with a big grin on your face riding a one horned pony.

Every day spread positive energy, smile at strangers and show interest in other’s lives. Treat everyone as though you may never see them again and these are your closing words to them. Of course one of the best ways to bond with someone is rocking out to some awesome music. So turn up the tunes and be kind to one another!
